Pollution means adding unwanted substances to the environment that causes physical, chemical, social, mental injury or disaster is called pollution. Today, Pollution is  a global problem. About two hundred years ago, nobody knew the real meaning of the word pollution. In fact the word pollution didn't existed. From these years pollution has started growing up like a menace. One can find this menace existing in three forms that is Air, Water, Sound and Soil. Now-a-days social pollution also exists.
Pollution is a result of rapid unplanned urbanisation and industrialisation which causes severe effect on human and bio life. As a result of the pollution the bio-diversity is becoming extinct. The pollution in India has caused many Asiatic lions to become extinct. Many environmental changes have occurred.

Global warming is another form of pollution. Global warming in India has caused drought in Cherapunji (Cherapunji is a place which had maximum amount or rainfall every year since centuries) and has caused severe floods in surat district. These two incidents predict the horrendous face of Pollution. Global warming is indirectly nothing but pollution but it causes many terrible effects on the environment. If this continues then the polar ice will melt sinking us in the water.

According to the observation, The Capital city of Japan that is Tokyo is sinking 1 cm every year.

Air pollution occurs due to release of poisonous gases from factories, thermal power stations etc. This air pollution has caused depletion of ozone layer which causes the ultraviolet radiation to reach the earth. This causes skin cancer, damage to eyes, dysfunction of immune system of the body and lot more diseases. Air pollution causes respiratory diseases like Asthma, Bronchitis, Asbestosis, Silicosis etc.

Not all farmers are educated. Some of them are unknown about the use of fertilisers and due to incomplete information they use it recklessly. This decreases the fertility of the soil resulting in land pollution. Land pollution is caused by release of nuclear waste on open land. Land is also adversely affected by soil erosion agents like wind, water etc. To stop such natural agents check dams should be built.

Water pollution is one of the serious pollution causing damage to life of people. The sewage and effluents released in the water bodies like rivers and seas cause the water pollution. This water when used for drinking, the poisonous effluents enter the body and may cause death of the individual. The tragedy of Bhopal in 1984 killed thousands of innocent peoples due to leakage of poisonous and toxic gases from the Union Carbide factory. These gases when dissolve in water cause water pollution. Thousands of ascetics and people bathe in the river Ganga and cause water pollution.

Sound pollution or noise pollution is caused by loud speakers arranged during the time of Diwali and Christmas eve. It is also caused by continuous honking of horns by people on road. Too much of noise pollution subjected for a long time interval causes deafness and many ear diseases like otosclerosis etc. Noise pollution can cause mental effects too which can decrease the memory power of an individual.

Ever wondered why are lot of trees planted in the areas surrounding air port?

Density of the trees stop noise pollution and all other kinds of pollution. It means that trees are the only way to stop the pollution. Thick trees stop soil erosion, clutching soil beneath their roots. Trees also prevent air pollution by increasing oxygen level and decreasing carbon dioxide level. Trees have the capability to attract humid clouds and hence bring rain. This decreases the water pollution as the increasing water level dissolves the pollutants. So, Trees are demigods of this age as they are the only one who can protect us from the perilous and precarious devil of POLLUTION.
