Here's a bit of comparison between two great e-mail clients - "Mozilla Thunderbird" and "Windows Live Mail"

Not to be so precise but, we have, today two email clients heavily popular. One is Windows Live Mail and the other one is Mozilla's Thunderbird. Both of them are nearly same. Both have similar layouts and both of them offer same type of options. So, we decided to take out a war amongst them. Who's the winner? we will be announcing at the end. Kindly read the entire blog post to get idea.

Let me give both the clients 10 points.

Mozilla Thunderbird - 10
Windows Live Mail - 10

Mozilla Thunderbird is a bit typical kind of email client. It inherits styles and visuals from the Operating system, entirely. Though it has got some nice icons and some bit of visuals but still I would like to deduct a print from it.

Windows Live mail, unlike the thunderbird offers lively interface with the cool live bar to top with gorgeous icons. Considering default layouts, Windows Live Mail offers three pane layout as default while Thunderbird offers two pane, one containing folders while the other one horizontally divided in two. Windows Live Mail's three pane interface makes it easier to read mails. So, I would definitely give Windows Live Mail a point on this event.

Windows Live Mail - 11

Windows Live Mail is a bit slower. when you start Windows Live Mail, it shows you a splash screen and then after a while, main window is displayed.

Mozilla has taken the ground on this occasion. It starts faster than Windows Live Mail. Here's the score of this round.

Mozilla Thunderbird - 10
Windows Live Mail - 10

Mozilla Thunderbird is a bit complicated to use especially if you are having Hotmail, Yahoo or live accounts.

Windows Live Mail automatically detects your mail server as POP, IMAP or HTTP and then configures the settings accordingly. generally, you don't have to manually configure the accounts.

Windows Live Mail - 11

Searching mail is a lot easier in Windows Live Mail. It is not only faster but it also searched your search text in Sender, Receiver and subject.

Mozilla Thunderbird does not search in the receiver of cc, bcc or like that. Also, I find it a bit slower than Windows Live Mail.

Windows Live Mail - 12

Windows Live Mail offers contacts. When you go to contact window, you can search, add, edit, delete, send message, photos or almost anything to contacts. It is also very clear to read a contact by just clicking on it. You can clearly identify each and every contact by it's simplified view.

Mozilla Thunderbird has got an address book but still, it lacks certain features. You can write, delete, edit or create new contact in Mozilla Thunderbird's address book but still, you don't have a direct facility called photo email by which you can directly send photos. Also, the search feature of Mozilla Thunderbird searched just name and email and not any detail of contact. With Windows Live Mail, you can search even the mobile number of the recipient. If you type in mobile number, the recipient's name corresponding to it will be quickly displayed.

Windows Live Mail - 13

Now we have a very minor difference. Windows Live Mail offers Business Card and Comma Separated Values formats only while Mozilla Thunderbird offers three formats namely: LDIF, Comma Separated Values and Tag Delimiters. Although Mozilla Thunderbird is not supporting the business card format, because it is supporting three formats, I would like to give it a one.

Windows Live Mail - 12

Now, I think that the mail retrieval speed of Mozilla Thunderbird is greater than that of Windows Live Mail. So,

Mozilla Thunderbird - 9
Windows Live Mail - 11

So, at the end of this war, we have a winner. And the Winner is......   .......   ....... Windows Live Mail !!!!!!!

Congratulations to Windows Live team !!!!!!!! Hats off to you.....

Mozilla has also worked hard to get second position at this stage. So, here we congratulate the Mozilla team for developing such a nice email client. Hope their next version is much better.

These both the browsers have been tested on the Sony VAIO BZ 15 GN laptop whose specifications are specified in the 'Want to browse internet even faster? Here's what you need to know' post. Please refer it.

This post is not to discourage Mozilla Thunderbird users but it is just a opinion.
